About EMPAC | Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center “The concert hall of the 21st century has arrived. But in addition, the huge building, laid out on a hillside, houses a 400-seat theater with comparable versatility; two black-box studios, one geared more toward sound, the other toward sight; and space for rehearsals and other uses. And for their electronic and data needs, all these components have access to one of the world’s biggest supercomputers.” The New York Times (10/08/2008) At the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Institute), the arts, sciences, and technology meet under one roof in four exceptional venues. This incredible 220,000 square foot building, designed by London-based Grimshaw Architects, opened in 2008 and is an unmatched model of acoustics, infrastructure, and architectural engineering with state-of-the-art performing arts infrastructure and architectural engineering. EMPAC’s concert hall features 1,165 seats with the ability to sculpt the acoustical soundscape for musical performances and equipment for screens, projections, and staging elements. The Goodman Studio/Theater and Studio 2 are versatile spaces that can be used to create immersive experiences utilizing both projection and sound technology. EMPAC’s theater features computer-controlled rigging, a sixty-foot fly tower, and advanced recording audio and video recording technology. Beyond the four core venues, EMPAC houses residency studios, research offices, green room, soloists/conductor suites, changing rooms, and the main lobby level, as well as café and mezzanine levels, which are often used by students as studying and meeting spaces. EMPAC currently commissions, presents, and researches interdisciplinary time-based visual art and the entire range of performing arts genres. It is on the precipice of its next era as a local, regional, and global research entity and destination in exploring the industry and market in which the EMPAC business model exists and how it will evolve. EMPAC will embrace how its purpose deeply aligns with the Institute’s Rensselaer Forward strategic plan in its 2024 Bicentennial and over the next 10 years with strategic themes embedded in Education, Research, Translation, Regional Engagement, and Welcoming & Inclusive Community. The Institute’s strategic goals include becoming the premier arts and creativity-driven science and engineering university; creating a robust and holistic learning community focused on the generation and discovery of new knowledge, processes, and products at the interface of science, technology, and arts; and leading a renewal of and integration with the Capital Region. Curatorial Activities Artists-in-residence work with EMPAC’s technological resources in order to produce work at the center, often planned years in advance. Artist residencies are uniquely tailored to each individual artist, and members of the EMPAC production staff are deeply involved in the development of artistic ideas of the residencies. Artists in residence share their artistic research through the process, and visitors can also engage in experiences ranging from theater productions, concerts, and installations to an interdisciplinary program of screening, talks, and workshops. EMPAC resources are used for research by the Institute’s community and otherwise are utilized for meetings, workshops, and symposia. The unique polyvocal curatorial programs at EMPAC lead to the creation of diverse time-based artworks and hundreds of artists have created and presented their new works that foster deep artistic inquiry and audience engagement. The artistic projects are supported in depth over extended periods of time, allowing the artists to fully realize their visions using the exceptional technological infrastructure and the expertise of the EMPAC staff. Collaboration with other institutions, presenters, and museums is key to EMPAC’s goal of expanding audiences and connecting more deeply to the on-campus and external communities it serves. Research Initiatives In addition to its curatorial program, EMPAC is the center of robust research initiatives driven by Institute students, faculty, and staff from all five schools. Using the venues and with the support of EMPAC’S professional experts, researchers are supported in work centered on the questions of understanding human sensory experience, communication, and interaction with computing systems. From student work to research and performance opportunities, extracurricular clubs to special events, EMPAC offers a range of ways for Institute students to be involved. Since 2020, EMPAC has also been part of the Google Arts & Culture project, allowing visitors to enjoy stories on various topics, including the building’s design and construction and spatial audio and wave field synthesis. Job Summary | The Executive Director of EMPAC will guide and deliver on its mission and vision as a global center at the intersection of the arts, science, and technology. They will be accountable for a strategic direction, business model, and adaptive change that are in alignment with the Institute’s Rensselaer Forward plan, including the goal to create the most welcoming and inclusive community possible for faculty, staff, students, and the external community EMPAC serves. The Executive Director will maintain a presence both on and off campus by actively participating in the community and establishing international visibility at relevant conferences and other events that increase exposure and access to artists that could curate, produce, or be presented by EMPAC. These activities are focused on preserving an integrated interdisciplinary pedagogical approach to research, programs, and campus events that inspire active participation by faculty and students in and attendance at EMPAC. The Executive Director will partner with each of the School Deans and Institute Administration to coordinate student learning outcomes, activating EMPAC as a hub for student learning on campus. They will oversee, inspire, and collaborate with a dedicated staff while investing in them and securing the resources that ensure EMPAC remains at the forefront of technological advancements. In collaboration with Institute Advancement and the President, the Executive Director will establish and maintain a portfolio of donor relationships that support the capital and operating needs of EMPAC, including its facilities, programs, and research. Additionally, the Executive Director will spearhead plans with the Office of Community Engagement and Communications to engage with local and regional organizations, as well as too raise the unique profiles of both EMPAC and the Institute in the region and on national and international levels. EMPAC’s core annual operating budget in fiscal 2024 is $4.6 million with additional expenses embedded in the Institute’s operational structure, and it has approximately 40 full-time staff. Qualifications | Qualifications The successful candidate will have a minimum of a master’s degree, or equivalent experience, and 8-10 years of senior management expertise in commissioning, promoting, programming, producing, and/or presenting contemporary music, theater, dance, multi-media, or other experimental creative industry initiatives. A comprehensive understanding of associated production, capacity utilization (both venue and staff), audience development, and venue management is important. Although experience in an academic environment is helpful, those with demonstrable results in nonprofit or corporate structures are welcome to pursue this unique opportunity. Exceptional relationship management, donor cultivation, and creative industries expertise with leading producers and artists at the national and international level is preferred. The capacity to work flexible hours on evenings and weekends is required in best serving the needs of numerous stakeholders. Job Summary | The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY, is amid a planned multi-year renewal of its faculty and mission. As part of this renewal, we seek applications for the Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Endowed Chaired and Tenured Full Professorship in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer. Director of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator
Pay Status and Classification: Exempt, full-time
Supervisor: Vice President and Chief of Staff
Position Purpose: Under general direction by the Vice President and Chief of Staff, Office of the President, works collaboratively with various departments, including Student Affairs, Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Campus Safety and the Chief Diversity Officer to ensure the College’s adherence to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Amendments to the Clery Act, New York State Education Law Article 129-B, and other federal and state laws governing gender-based misconduct, discrimination, harassment and equal opportunity. Plays a pivotal role in fostering and securing a nurturing environment conducive to academic and personal growth of all College community members.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Compliance: Facilitates compliance with all procedures, requirements and timeframes outlined in the College’s Title IX Policy, Gender-based Misconduct Policy, and the Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation in Employment. Leads an effort to review and revise policies in response to changes in governing laws, regulations, and guidance. Reviews and compiles reports in compliance with federal and state law and to identify and address any patterns or systemic problems of reports of harassment and misconduct within the College community. Completes annual assessment report of progress to goals.
- Process Oversight: Oversees and coordinates investigations, responses, and resolutions to complaints under the Title IX Policy, the Gender-based Misconduct Policy, and the Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation in Employment. Assures that investigation and resolution processes are conducted in a fair, timely, impartial, respectful, and thorough manner.
- Collaboration & Partnership: Collaborates with colleagues in Student Affairs and Human Resources to identify topics, design and deliver student and employee training including compliance content training (e.g. NCAA Title IX requirements, new student orientation requirements, student training pursuant to New York Education Law Article 129-B, etc.). Coordinates with local organizations and service providers to ensure our community members have access to confidential resources. Manages partnerships with other external agencies with which the College has a partnership in executing its responsibilities under Title IX and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Supervision: Selects, trains, assigns and oversees designated roles including Deputy Title IX Coordinators, investigators, adjudication panel members, appellate panel members and advisors; ensures all are adequately trained in compliance with federal and New York State law.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in a related field such as human resources, law, social justice, higher education administration or a relevant discipline and/or a Juris Doctorate, and a minimum of three years of experience in equal opportunity compliance, Title IX administration, or a related field, preferably in a higher education or nonprofit organizational setting.
- Extensive experience working on compliance with Title IX, Title VII, ADA, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Section 504 and related regulatory requirements.
- Certification and/or training as required by federal and New York State law to serve in the position, or ability to obtain such certification and training prior to commencement of employment.
- Demonstrated expertise in federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to equal opportunity, affirmative action, discrimination and harassment, including comprehensive knowledge of Title VII, Title IX, the Clery Act, New York State Education Law Article 129-B or similar state laws, and related guidance from the United States Department of Education and applicable state authorities.

Compensation
The annual salary range this position is $115,000.00 - $123,000.00. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Purpose: Provides clerical, administrative and project support to the departments of history and political science. Serves as the liaison between the departments, internal and external guests. Greets and assists guests who enter the departmental offices. Contributes to two teams of faculty department administrators.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Office Support: Provides support for department associated activities, to include managing the schedule/calendar, screening and handling telephone communications, routine, filing, typing, copying, binding, scanning, ordering and organizing necessary office supplies, greeting and directing visitors, managing and creating content for department websites. Serves as a primary point of direct administrative contact and liaison with other offices, individuals, and external institutions and agencies on a range of issues. Supervises, trains and hires student employees.
- Administration: Organizes, processes and analyzes department data including but not limited to calculating grade point averages for senior honor students and honor society inductees, assisting in the planning and tracking of activities related to the departments' respective study away programs, completing forms for the registrar (e.g. course schedules, final exams, etc.), assisting and facilitating in building and maintaining an alumni network and supporting fundraising activities. Assists administrative colleagues with other College assignments as needed and offers to assist during crunch times and overlapping deliverables.
- Event & Travel Coordination: Manages all department events, dinners, seminars, conferences under the general supervision of the Department Chairs (i.e. maintains an event budget, makes campus contacts with dining services, instructional technology or any other campus contact necessary for the event, makes hotel and travel arrangements for speakers, creates and posts seminar flyers, etc.). Assists with securing housing, dining locations and, venues for class and speakers, receipt processing, and other related activities
- Search Coordination: Provides full support in hiring faculty. Tasks include, but are not limited to: maintaining and organizing records of all job applications received, scheduling on-campus visits (including hotel, transportation, and dining services reservations), helping with scheduling job seminars, student meetings with the visiting faculty, etc.
Qualifications:
- High school degree or equivalent and three to five years of administrative experience, preferably in an academic setting, or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and work experience.

Athletics Equipment Manager
Supervisor: Assistant Director of Athletics - Business Operations
Pay status and classification: Exempt, Regular full-time. This is a 12-month position.
Position Purpose: Oversees, organizes, and directs all aspects of the athletics equipment area in support of the mission and core values of Union College. Union College sponsors 26 intercollegiate sports, 24 in Division III, with Ice Hockey competing at Division I.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operations: Manages the day to day services of the athletics equipment room. Coordinates laundry room operations with coaches to ensure needs are met. Maintains inventory for accurate equipment and apparel records. Oversees distribution, collection and maintenance of records. Collaborates with Hockey Equipment Manager to ensure successful oversight of services for programs.
- Safety: Ensures proper fitting and adjustment of equipment for intercollegiate programs to provide a safe environment for student-athletes. Ensures all equipment and apparel is ready for safe use and remains current with industry standards for safety. Successfully maintains Athletic Equipment Manager Association (AEMA) certification.
- Administration: Oversees the purchasing of equipment and apparel for intercollegiate sport programs. Collaborates with coaches for program needs, create purchase orders, projecting apparel and equipment budgets. Builds relationships with athletics vendors. Continually evaluates policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness of equipment room operations. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff of work-study workers. Adheres to NCAA, College and athletic department policies. Pitches in to assist colleagues as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of successful experience in athletics equipment operations and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience, including football and ice hockey.
- Knowledge of maintaining equipment for ice hockey and football to ensure safety.
- Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA certification) or the intent to complete the certification once eligible.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends for equipment operations at practices and games, which include home and away contests.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.), and stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time.
- Must possess or obtain a valid New York State driver’s license.
- Thorough understanding and working knowledge of federal, state, local, and NCAA, rules, policies and procedures.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including attention to detail.
- Effective computer skills for maintaining accurate records, budget forecasting and purchasing of equipment and apparel.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and be self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Able to exercise exceptional judgment, ensure strict confidentiality, and demonstrate outstanding professionalism in a range of situations.

Supervisor: Director of Enterprise Applications
Position Purpose: Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications, this position provides software technology support for all enterprise applications at Union College. Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 1-3 years related experience. Combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience will be taken into consideration.
- Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning solutions (e.g. Workday) and Student Information Systems (e.g. Ellucian Colleague).

Lecturer of Biomedical Engineering Position at Union College
The Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering at Union College invites applications for a Lecturer of Biomedical Engineering position, beginning Fall 2024. The position is renewable with a contract period of three years. After six years of employment at Union, Lecturers are eligible for promotion to Senior Lecturer with the possibility of contract lengths up to five years. A Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field is required. Candidates expecting to complete their doctoral thesis before September 2024 are also welcome to apply. We seek an individual who demonstrates a strong commitment to student-centered undergraduate education, including those with a professional interest in pedagogy. Service duties will include coordinating the Summer Clinical Immersion Program with our local partners, advising our Biomedical Engineering Society student chapter, and coordinating the biomedical engineering seminar series. Although research is not an expectation of this position, the successful candidate will have the option to continue scholarly activity and will have access to College funds and a wide array of advanced instrumentation and facilities. Excellent candidates in all areas of Biomedical Engineering will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates with expertise in biomechanics, biomaterials, and rehabilitation engineering.
